  3D laser scanning

Gain Highly Accurate & Detailed Data From Your Local 3D Laser Scanner Expert

One of the main advantages of using 3D laser scanning is the high level of accuracy and detail that is achieved. These services can capture detailed data to within millimetres, making it possible to create highly accurate 2D drawings and 3D models of a building’s structure and layout.

Step 1

Laser Scanning Process

A 3D laser scanner is set up at various positions around the building or structure. Multiple scan positions are typically required to ensure full coverage and capture all necessary details. The scanner emits laser beams in a sweeping motion, which bounce off the surfaces of the building and return to the scanner. The time taken for the laser to return determines the distance between the scanner and the surface, allowing for the calculation of precise measurements.

Step 2

Point Cloud Registration

As the scanner collects data from each scan position, it creates a dense collection of three-dimensional data points known as a “point cloud.” Each point in the cloud represents a specific location on the surface of the building. After completing the individual scans, the point clouds are registered and stitched together to create a unified and comprehensive 3D representation of the entire building or structure. This process aligns the different scans, ensuring accuracy and eliminating any discrepancies.

Step 3

Data Processing and Modelling

The point cloud data can be further processed using specialised software to remove unwanted elements, such as moving objects or noise. The processed point cloud can then generate accurate 3D models, floor plans, sections, elevations, or other documentation as required.

Step 4

Analysis and Visualisation

The 3D models derived from the laser scanning data can be analysed and visualised to extract valuable information. This includes measurements of distances, areas, volumes, and precise geometric details of the building.

Benefits of Point Cloud Survey

Building Information Modelling (BIM): Create intelligent 3D models integrating building elements and data based on accurate measurements and point cloud data obtained through a 3D laser scanning survey.
